Predictions for Catching Fire

I predict that in the book I chose to read Catching Fire, that the victors of the Hunger games will have to rejoin the next year's games. I predict this because Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark of the first book did something at the end of the book that made the president of the districts, President Snow, very angry. They disobeyed the capital therefore making the capital look weak. I think that the president will make the go back and fight in the games because he wants to kill them for disobeying him and making him look foolish. This reminds me of the short story we read in class, Harrison Bergeron. It relates to this prediction because the government in both scenarios is editing what the citizens can see in order to look more powerful. President snow did not want the people to see Katniss and Peeta disobeying him and neither did the government in the short story.

Why I chose to read this Book

The book I chose to read is Catching Fire. I chose to read this book because I read The Hunger Games and thought that the story line and characters were interesting. I'm not the kind of person who can sit down and read all day but while reading The Hunger Games I found myself wanting to read more. I saw the movie Catching Fire and have seen The Hunger Games too and I personally liked Catching Fire more so i hope that this book is better than The Hunger Games. So i was wondering for those of you who have read both books or seen both movies, which did you enjoy more?

The tone of this tone is sort of the opposite of hopeful so far. The main character Hazel has lived longer than she was expected to but she does not really realize how lucky she is. The mood is sort of uplifting in a way but is also sad, because it is a romance and they are both sick. In the story within the first two chapters one of the main characters Augustus, starts to give the other main character a more uplifting tone because they start to like each other a lot. Augustus is caring and supportive which helps her seek a little bit of happiness.

My post is about character development and it is involving the main character in my book hazel and her struggles of cancer in the book The fault in our stars. Just within the first fifty or so pages you can tell he opinion about her whole situation and how she would rather die than keep on fighting for life. In the story she says "Maybe that time is coming soon and maybe it is millions of years away, but even if we survive the collapse of our sun, we will not survive forever" (Green 13). This quote shows how she feels about her situation in the beginning. Since i have only read the first charter of the book i am not sure how her character will develop and think but i do know that these are her initial thoughts that may or may not change over time. She is not very optimistic most of the time but tries to act like it in front of a guy she likes and her parents. The theme is not yet shown yet but i think it will have to do with love over sickness or something similar to that.

Reading skills

I think that in this book the main character Hazel will have a new view on life as the story goes on. I think that she will fall in love with a bot introduced in the first chapter Augustus because from the minute they met they had a sort of pull to each other. I was asking myself questions though like 'will their relationship last?'. This is about a girl with cancer and i can relate to this because people in my family have had cancer, and I know how hard it is on the people affected. This book reminds me of the book my sisters keeper because they have similar topics and ideas. I haven't read much of the book yet but i know that many people are affected by diseases all around the world and i wonder if the book goes into depth about the feelings of the friends and family members of Hazel.

So far my book The fault in our stars is about a girl who has cancer and is not very hopeful about beating it and openly doesn't feel like trying to beat it. I'm not sure about the plot of the book but i believe that the main character (Hazel) will experience new found love of a guy named Augustus introduced in the first chapter while at a support group meeting in the story. I think that she will also develop a new way of looking at life rather than looking at death. If you have read this book feel free to comment whether my prediction has anything to do with the rest of the book.

Water for Elephants article

My article that I chose is a review of the book that I read for my summer reading project. I read through it and i agree that it accurately judges the book. http://blogcritics.org/book-review-water-for-elephants-by/

The theme of the book that I read Water for Elephants is that when life throws the worst at you to try to make the best out of the situation. In the book Jacob (the main character) recently found out about his parents unexpected death, leaving him with no money or home. While taking a walk in the woods to clear his head the train of a traveling circus passes by. In the spur of the moment he decides to jump aboard to start a new life and hopefully get a job. This displays the theme because when given a challenging situation he made a decision to move on and forget the past. The was the author displays the theme is subtle but works its way into many different scenes in the book. The traveling circus life is difficult for Jacob, but with a little support from new found friends he makes new memories and forgets the old ones.
